Dear Jack,
You are two weeks and one day old. You are sleeping now, something you do fairly well and fairly often. For the first time today, I really missed you while you were snoozing. I wasn’t zombie-tired, I guess. I held you for a long time while you snoozed then laid you down to give my arms a rest. I admit that when I heard you starting to stir, my heart leapt. I couldn’t wait to see your pretty eyes again and talk to you.
You are amazingly big to me. You were never a tiny baby like the one we saw at the doctor’s office today – born just a day after you but still a teeny seven pounds. It’s hard to believe you are only two weeks and one day old. But you are. Still so new. You are so strong – you can control your neck for a few seconds at a time and you love looking around you. You gaze and gaze at the ceiling fan or the big mirror behind the couch. Sometimes your gaze falls on me. I love the thought that you might recognize me.
You look different everyday. Your eyes are still a little crusty, but they are so blue and seem to be lightening up a little bit. You have long legs and big, flat feet. You have “piano fingers” like your dad. You make cute scowling faces and little giggles when you are digesting. You’re a good eater and you’ve already gained nearly a pound.
It’s true that I find everything about you fascinating.
Love,
Your amazed Mama
